Church events

The Sunday school of St. John’s Lutheran Church, South Avenue, will resume at 9:15 a.m. Sunday. Along with kicking off the World Hunger Drive, the students will promoted to their new classes. St. John’s Men’s Group will be presenting a fire safety program for the children, complete with a fire drill.

Three children will be receiving Bibles as gifts from the Sunday school. They are Ralph Clay, Thomas Schafer and Joseph Handlovic. Refreshments will be served following the program.

During the morning worship service at 10:30, the Sunday school staff will be installed.

St. John’s will also be holding its church picnic at Memorial Park on Sept. 23 beginning at 10:30 a.m. with a worship service. This will be followed by a lunch and various activities for those in attendance.

The Diligent Fire Company truck will be stopping by for the children to enjoy and explore. Each family is asked to bring a baked good for the cake walk, prize for the bingo table and covered dish or bag of something to share for lunch. The church will be supplying the chicken and beverages.

Community supper

The next free community supper to be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Race Street, will be held on Sept. 23. The meal will be pork and sauerkraut and will be served from 4 to 6 p.m.
