Lansford Police seize drugs, stolen weapon

Lansford Police Department seized drugs, cash and a stolen handgun during a traffic stop on Saturday.

The alleged suspect, John Cambria-Raygoza of Coaldale is facing several felony charges.

An officer saw Cambria-Raygoza driving in the borough on Saturday around noon and pulled him over because he was aware that Cambria-Raygoza did not have a valid license.

During the traffic stop, police smelled marijuana. The owner of the vehicle, who was riding in the passenger seat, reportedly gave consent.

During the subsequent search of the vehicle they found a backpack which had mail addressed to Cambria-Raygoza inside. The bag also allegedly contained a loaded .22-caliber handgun, methamphetamine (6 grams), heroin (40 bags), and marijuana (7 grams), as well as a digital scale and numerous baggies which police said are commonly used to package street drugs for retail sale.

The serial number on the pistol was scratched off.

Cambria-Raygoza was also found to be carrying $940.

The owner of the vehicle stated that she had picked up Cambria-Raygoza in Coaldale around 10 a.m. that day, and she saw him place bags in the back seat of the car. Cambria-Raygoza denied owning the drugs and pistol.

Cambria-Raygoza was charged with felony counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and possession of a weapon with an altered serial number.

He was sent to Carbon County Correctional Facility. Bail was set at 10 percent of $75,000. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 2.

In a social media post, Lansford Police thanked residents for tips information, and messages of support for the department.
