The situation began early Friday morning and never let up.
The Thomas J. McCall Memorial Bridge was closed to Lehighton-bound traffic at the stroke of midnight Friday.Traffic is being routed through Weissport, Bridge Street is one way and drivers can't turn left from Bridge Street.Fire police were called to assist police and nobody was happy. We asked drivers how long it took them to get to the other side. They sounded off on the Times News Facebook page. Here are a few comments:Lisa Silvius: 31 mins from Pizza Hut light on 443 to cross over to get on 209. Real mess!!Kristie Lynn: Avoided it. Took all back roads to where I needed to go. I'm not going anywhere near that mess.Dawn Lawler: The kids were 25 minutes later coming home from the middle school by bus.Danielle Pickett: It's ridiculous! I was waiting 30 minutes at 2 pm. I still wasn't through so I turned around at the plumbing supply. They need to think of better alternatives! This isn't working.... Especially for the working class that have to be at work... Ugh!Kelly Marie Giordano: 60 minutes from Bagels Bunch to 248 at 7:40 this a.m.Times News staffer Amy Burger reported that at 1 p.m. it took her about 45 minutes to get from Walmart to the other side of the bridge. Some people weren't surprised at the congestion. Some other Facebook remarks:Crystel Stein: That was bound to happen. It was bad when Weissport was shut down for train tracks repair. Can only imagine what this will bring.Scott Meckes: And then if there's a train in Weissport then there's a really big back up.And some people just prepared ahead of time.A.J. Everett said, "You won't catch me wasting my gas in that mess. Already planned my routes around it."
