Lehighton man sentenced for DUI, fleeing police

A Lehighton man was sentenced to a county prison term on Tuesday for driving under the influence and fleeing police charges, but since he has already spent a long period of time in prison, he won't be serving any moretime.

Lawney Lee Strohl, 46, was sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass on counts of DUI, fleeing or attempting to elude police and driving under suspension-DUI related to a total prison term of two months and 45 days to six months in prison. However, Strohl was given credit for spending a total of 331 days in the county prison on the charges.Strohl was arrested on May 25, 2014, by state police at Lehighton, who observed him operating a dirt bike without a registration plate in Weissport. Strohl did not stop and fled into Lehighton.He crashed the bike along Bridge Street then fled on foot. He was found later hiding in brush near the Lehigh River. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.On the DUI countSerfass sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, and a one-year license suspension. On the driving undersuspension count he was sentenced to serve 45 to 90 days in jail, a fine of $500, and another one-year suspension. The terms run concurrently.On the fleeing charge he was sentenced to serve two to five months in prison, consecutive to the other counts. He must also pay court costs of about $1,000.After receiving thecredit of time served, he was paroled.
