Pleasant Valley High School students got a second day off this week, and it was not because of snow, but rather a partial power outage at the high school.

"We were told that the outage on Monday evening was caused by a transformer explosion in the area of routes 115 and 209. We don't know if it was related to the power outage last night or just coincidental," said Josh Krebs district director of support services."But when the power came back on, only partial power was restored to the high school."More than 1,500 Chestnuthill residents were left without power Tuesday because of the explosion that happened just before 7:30 p.m. Some traffic lights on Route 209 were out of commission until PPL restored power about 90 minutes later.According to Krebs, some switch gears in one of the electrical power rooms did not engage, and though they worked through the night they were unable to restore the power and had to call off school for the day."We still had heat in some of the building so it never posed any threat, it was just a mechanical part that malfunctioned," Krebs said."The electricians are telling us the power should be fully restored by 11 a.m."Once the power is restored and Krebs is sure that there will be no additional issues, he will meet with district Superintendent Carole Geary and decide whether or not to go ahead with after-school activities.
