Pleasant Valley had a pair of noteworthy performances to highlight Friday's scholastic sports action.

In tennis, the Bears' Karli Williams and Erin Dougherty captured a championship at the Mountain Valley Conference Tournament. In volleyball, Pleasant Valley coach John Gesiskie picked up a milestone victory.TENNISMVC TournamentPleasant Valley's Karli Williams and Erin Dougherty captured the #3 doubles championship at the Mountain Valley Conference Tennis Tournament. The performance helped the Bears to a third place finish in the team standings.Stroudsburg ran away with the team title as it captured five of the six individual championships and finished with 29 points. East Stroudsburg South had 19 points and Pleasant Valley had 18 points.After receiving a bye in the opening round, Williams and Dougherty played up to their top seed, defeating Michelle Eller and Melanie Fuchs of Pocono Mountain East, 8-3, in the semifinals and Megan McDonald and Nia Kunzneston, 8-5, in the finals.In addition to the strong performance from Williams and Dougherty, Pleasant Valley had a pair of second place finishes.Lauren Heckelman advanced to the finals at No. 3 singles before falling to Stroudsburg's Kelsey Sterner, 8-2. Heckelman beat East Stroudsburg South's Milena Rashkova, 8-5 in the semifinals.The No. 2 doubles team of Emily Skutnik and Nicole Reeder lost in the finals to Stroudsburg's Katie Catina and Lauren Casale, 8-7. Skutnik and Reeder beat Katelym Joffe and Celine Camacho of East Stroudsburg South, 8-5, in the semifinals.Pleasant Valley's Kristin Cook and Sarah Elmontacir the No. 1 and No. 2 singles players both picked up quarterfinal round victories before being ousted in the semis.VOLLEYBALLPleasant Vy.-PM EastPleasant Valley swept Pocono Mountain East to give coach John Gesiskie his 300th career victory.The Bears rolled to a 25-13, 25-17, 25-19 Mountain Valley Conference win to give the veteran coach the impressive milestone.Kayla Dorney had a big day for Pleasant Valley with 14 kills, 13 digs and three aces. She got plenty of help from Brittni Cumberland (21 assists, three kills); Crystal Cambria (six kills); and Breanna Joseph (three blocks, two kills).Pleasant Valley is now 5-0 in MVC.Weatherly-HazletonWeatherly cruised past Hazleton, 25-13, 25-17, 25-9.Brittney Hinkle was a force at the net for the Wreckers with 11 kills. She also added eight digs and five aces.Other players who contributed to the win for the Wreckers were Rachel Heister (23 assists, four kills, three digs); Sarah Dolinsky (six kills and seven digs); Alyssa Kephart (eight kills, 10 digs); and Alicia Panzarella (11 digs, three assists).Weatherly is now 6-3 on the season.The Wreckers won the JV match, 25-15, 25-16.PM West-LehightonLehighton breezed to a 25-13, 25-12, 25-2 victory over Pocono Mountain West.Debra Lobein had a solid all-around game for the Indians with 15 assists, seven aces, four digs, and three kills.Also playing well for Lehighton were Jessica Lobein (20 digs, six kills); Lauren Poremba (13 aces, three kills); and Anne Zurn (two aces, three kills).Lehighton also won the JV match, 25-13, 25-14.FIELD HOCKEYPalmerton-WilsonPalmerton blanked Wilson, 3-0, for its first home victory in four years.The Bombers (2-6) got goals from Kelsey Eaton, Kylee Turko and Greta Hartsell. Turko, Morgan Myers and Marissa Larson picked up assists.Palmerton had a 24-10 advantage in shots. Bomber goalie Lydia Anthony made five saves to post the shutout.Wilson falls to 0-8 on the season.No. Lehigh-MoravianNatalie Drelles' late goal lifted Moravian Academy to a 4-3 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.Drelles scored with just eight minutes remaining to snap a 3-3 tie and propel the Lions (6-2) to the victory.For Northern Lehigh (5-3, 5-5), Lauren Zellner, Payton Marunich and Rachel Wagner all scored goals.Moravian Academy held a 25-16 advantage in shots. Bulldog goalie Nicole Horn made 16 saves.
