Nesquehoning fire departments and Carbon County EMA conducted a search for nearly a dozen hikers who were lost in the woods between Nesquehoning and Jim Thorpe Thursday afternoon.
Mark Nalesnik, Carbon County EMA coordinator, said that Nesquehoning Hose Company No. 1 Fire Chief John McArdle, oversaw the search. The 911 call from the 10 hikers, who ranged from children to middle-age, came in shortly before 6 p.m.It was reported that they had been hiking at Glen Onoko Falls when they stumbled off the trail onto an overgrown trail. The group followed that path, which wound down the mountain and toward Nesquehoning. They were told to stay where they were and rescue crews were able to locate them within a half-hour.Nalesnik said the group was taken to the Emergency Management Agency to warm up after being out in the rain for hours.Park rangers assisted at the scene, helping to make arrangements to bring the hikers' vehicles to the EMA building.None of the hikers were injured.
