Man admits his role in robbery
A Carbon County man admitted his part in a robbery and assault incident in Lansford, in which the victim suffered injuries and was allegedly involved in a drug transaction.
Matthew Scott Creveling, 26, of Lansford, pleaded guilty to one count each of simple assault and disorderly conduct. He is one of several involved in the incident. Also involved were Deziray Cunningham, 37, Kyle Nalesnik and Alexis Goldberg, all of Lansford.According to the affidavit of probable cause, at about 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 30, 2014, police were dispatched to 146 W. Patterson St., for an assault and robbery. The victim, James Kutchera, was taken to St. Luke's Hospital - Miners Campus in Coaldale for treatment. He was treated for a head injury which included a large open wound to the back of the head, minor injuries to his face and redness to his neck and chest.Kutchera told police he had gone to the residence where his friend, Nalesnik, lives, to deliver heroin. Nalesnik's girlfriend, Goldberg, wanted to buy heroin for Nalesnik for his birthday. Kutchera had only 10 packets of the drug while Goldberg wanted 13. Kutchera said at this point Creveling demanded everything he had on him. He added that Creveling, Goldberg and Cunningham began circling him. Nalesnik left when the fracas started.Kutchera managed to exit the door but was hit on the back of the head with a glass dish by Cunningham. Kutchera said Creveling and Cunningham then took all his belongings, including the heroin. On Tuesday, Creveling admitted being involved in the incident but denied causing physical injuries to Kutchera. Creveling told Judge Joseph J. Matika, "I can't justify my actions. I like to start my life over." Creveling said after his arrest he was taken back to New Jersey for a probation violation and served time in a prison in that state. After he was released, he was brought back to the county prison in Nesquehoning.Matika sentenced Creveling to six to one day less 24 months in the county prison and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow recommendations for treatment, zero tolerance on drug and alcohol use, render 75 hours of community service when released on parole, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole, make restitution of $465 for Kutchera's medical bill, and have no contact with him. On the conduct count he was fined $100. He was given credit for 80 days already spent in jail on the charge and returned to the county prison. She was to appear on Aug. 10 but failed and a bench warrant was issued for her arrest. Goldberg is scheduled for trial in September.
