Tamaqua falls to Warwick
Tamaqua has been involved in quite a few games this post season in which its been the team putting big numbers on the scoreboard.
But on Friday in the winner's bracket final of the Section 6 10-11 year-old Little League Tournament, Tamaqua found itself on the other end of an offensive explosion.Warwick scored in four of its five atbats to defeat Tamaqua, 12-4.Tamaqua struck initially in the top of the first inning, as Carson Krell knocked in two runs for an early lead.Warwick answered in the bottom of the inning with a run of its own to narrow the lead. Warwick never looked back after the first inning, as it took the lead in the second inning and then the blew the game open with a seven-run third inning."Throughout the post season we've been good," said Warwick head coach Jim Kerrigan. "The reason I'm still here is because we're consistent and the bottom guys and my subs hit too. I'm very happy with my offense."Jeff Decker had a huge day at the dish for Warwick, as he smacked two doubles and drove in four runs. Carter Hinds had two hits and three RBIs in the contest. As impressive as the offense was for Warwick, its starting pitcher Blake Ravkin delivered a masterful performance on the mound.Ravkin hurled five innings, yielding five hits and striking out seven."Blake pitched phenomenal and Clay (Nehring) came in and closed great," said Kerrigan. "We had a couple of errors out there, but all in all it was a good game on both sides."Tamaqua yielded just six hits and played well defensively during the game, but walked seven Warwick batters.Offensively, Brian Milot and Ian Davis contributed the other RBIs for Tamaqua."Our defense has been solid all season," said Tamaqua head coach Mike Van Buskirk." Warwick had good pitching, we couldn't catch up with the breaking ball and we were off balance all game."Kerrigan acknowledged Tamaqua's a talented team and made his team aware that whomever they face in the championship on Sunday will be ready to play at a high level."We love coming here. Tamaqua is baseball country and it's phenomenal baseball," said Kerrigan. "Hats off to Tamaqua. They are a great team."I told the kids you can't come here Sunday and think that you're going to win. These are some great teams and if we come here expecting to win, we're not going to win."Despite the loss, Tamaqua will have another shot to advance to the championship game of the double elimination tournament later today when it takes on Pennridge at 1p.m."I told the kids to stay positive," Van Buskirk said. "They play baseball all day long whether it's for this team or not. It's just another game to them. They enjoy playing the game and they are confident."Tamaqua 200 200 - 4 5 0Warwick 127 02x - 12 6 2Wickersham, Van Buskirk(3), Agosti (4) and Steigerawlt, Schickram; Ravkin, Nehring(6) and Decker.
