Submissions are now being accepted for the Shawnee Original Playwright Series at Shawnee Playhouse.
Each year, the Worthington Players produce selected original submitted works of local and surrounding area playwrights.Established in 2009, the Shawnee Original Playwright Series offers playwrights an avenue to hone their skills and have their work seen on stage before a live audience. Playwrights submit their original work to be read by performers during a series of evenings, and the listeners vote on what they would like to see produced. The Shawnee Executive committee then reviews all scoring and comments, and the winning script, or scripts, are produced as a fully staged show. The resulting winners are the best of the best, and the audience has a chance to see a world premier play.Worthington Players is a nonprofit community theater group based at the Shawnee Playhouse produced by the Shawnee Institute Ltd, a 501(C)(3) foundation established to enhance the cultural and environmental aspects of life in Shawnee on Delaware, and for other purposes which such a foundation might support.Submissions are now being accepted for the 2017 productions. The readings will run Fridays at 7 p.m. March 4, 11, 18 and April 1, 2016.Submission deadline is Dec. 31. Works must be original and unpublished.
