State police at Lehighton report on crashes

State police at Lehighton reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers.

• A two-vehicle crash occurred at 1:29 p.m. Oct. 18 at the intersection of Route 903 and Maury Road in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Carol B. Davies, 74, of Belmar, New Jersey, was driving a 2014 Hyundai Elantra westbound on Maury Road and failed to clear the intersection and pulled into the path of a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt driven northbound on 903 by a 17-year-old girl from Jim Thorpe, and a collision occurred.

A passenger with Davies, Edwina K. Newell, 75, of Riverside, Ohio, sustained a minor injury and was taken to the Lehighton hospital for treatment. Davies and another passenger, Sheryl J. Johnson, 71, of Harrisburg, and the teen, were not injured.

Davies was cited for a stop sign violation.

• A tractor-trailer crash was reported on Oct. 19 at 12:45 p.m along Maury Road in Penn Forest Township. Roderick J. Cruz, 27, of Bensalem, Bucks County, was operating a 2015 Freightliner southbound and attempting a right turn when the rear axle went off the road and into a grassy area. The trailing cab struck a utility pole causing disabling damages.

Troopers said Cruz fled the scene and traveled about five miles south before being stopped by Franklin Township police at Interchange Road.

Cruz was cited for the incident.

• On Oct. 20 at 11:49 p.m. a crash occurred along Stony Ridge Drive in Polk Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Mumtaz S. Massaro, 33, of Albrightsville, was driving a 2000 Honda Accord northbound on Route 534 and then turned onto Stony Ridge Drive at a high rate of speed causing her to lose control of the vehicle. The Accord went onto the right berm and struck a tree head-on. Massaro then left the scene. She was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.

Anyone who might have witnessed this crash is asked to call troopers at 610-681-1850.

• Troopers investigated a two-vehicle crash at 4:25 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Gilbert Road and Mountain View Drive in Polk Township. Troopers said Alek S. Mager, 22, of Brodheadsville, was driving a 2008 Ford E250 van southbound on Gilbert Road when at some point Patricia D. Macmoyle, 69, of East Stroudsburg, driving a 2012 Nissan Sentra, entered the roadway from Mountain View Drive in an attempt to make a left turn after not stopping for a posted stop sign. Mager’s van struck the Sentra.

No one was injured but both vehicles had to be towed.

Macmoyle was cited for a stop sign violation.
