Weissport budget approved with no tax increase

Weissport council unanimously approved the 2019 budget at their meeting on Monday.

Total expenditures for the year are projected to be $121,888. Revenue expected is $117,448. To balance the budget, $4,440 will be transferred from the capital reserve fund.

The largest items in the budget are the police department and public works department. Expenditures are listed at $27,935 for police and $23,200 for public works.

Also during the meeting, council approved advertising the 2019 garbage rates, which include a $35.09 increase. Under the new rates, residents will see a yearly bill totaling $220.69. The fee is due by June 30, 2019, and late fees of $10 per month were approved.

Council will review the garbage ordinance for discussion at their next scheduled meeting in January.

In other business:

• Vandalism was reported to several electric boxes, panels and meter bases in the borough park and playground. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities.

• Council thanked the volunteers who decorated the park for Christmas.
