Summit Hill market employee robbed at gunpoint

Summit Hill police are investigating an armed robbery that happened this past weekend at a new business in the borough.

Police Chief Joseph Fittos said that police were called to Miners Market and Deli on East Amidon Street, just after 10:30 p.m. on Sunday for a burglar alarm.An investigation revealed that a store employee was closing the store up for the night and was putting out the trash when someone came inside and held a gun to the employee’s back. The assailant then taped the employee’s hands and legs before emptying both cash registers and running out the back of the store.The employee described the armed robber as a white man, approximately 6 feet tall with a slender build and wearing a ski mask.Fittos said Lansford, Nesquehoning, Jim Thorpe and Mahoning Township assisted borough police at the scene. State police were called to process the store.He said police are following up on some leads in the case, but asked that anyone who may have information regarding the incident or the identity of the armed robber to contact Summit Hill police at 570-645-7429.
