Weissport holds school reunion

Members from the former Weissport school came together for their seventh alumni reunion on Tuesday.

The reunion is held every year. Sixty-five alumni were in attendance.

The reunion was created when some of the alumni walked around the grounds of the past Weissport elementary school. They wanted to reconnect with the people they began their childhoods with.

“People still feel a sense of pride and ownership of Weissport,” Gary Schoenberger said. “So many people have stepped out of Weissport for different reasons, but they never forget their hometown.”

Some people travel to make it to the reunion, but the farthest traveler was JoAnn (Zellner) Peltz. She traveled from California.

“I come to the reunion to see some people I didn’t see in a while,” Peltz said. “I love California, but Pennsylvania is so green and gorgeous.”

At the reunion, the Weissport School Reunion Scholarship was presented to Brenna Long. She is currently a senior at Lehighton Area High School. The scholarship amount was $500.

Author Mike Bednar concluded the reunion with discussion on his writings and influence about the railroads in Weissport.
