Carbon inmate faces drug charges

A Palmerton woman faces drug charges after she was found to have drugs in her possession while in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning.

Nesquehoning Police Chief Sean Smith arrested Holly Marie Getz, 35, of 2645 Hahns Dairy Road, this week, after completing an investigation that stems from an incident at the prison earlier this month.According to the affidavit, at 11:16 a.m. June 3, Smith was contacted by Warden Timothy Fritz about an inmate, later identified as Getz, bringing heroin into the prison. Fritz told Smith that Getz was being strip searched when the discovery was made.Smith arrived at the prison and spoke with Fritz, who said a corrections officer was in the process of doing a strip search on Getz when she asked to use the bathroom. Getz was advised not to flush when she was done. At that time, the corrections officer found one wax packet filled with heroin in the toilet. The wax baggie was stamped "Call of Duty" with a rifle also stamped on it. The item was taken into evidence.Smith then spoke with Getz, who provided a written statement that she was not aware that she was in possession of the baggie, and added that it was an old empty baggie.Getz admitted that at one point, there was heroin in the baggie, but she did not recall when.Smith then asked what Getz's drug of choice was, to which she responded methamphetamine, but she said she also does heroin.Getz was charged with one count each of possession of a controlled substance, contraband/inmate; unlawful possession of a controlled substance; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
