Palmerton man pleads to two DUI counts
A Palmerton man pleaded guilty on Thursday in Carbon County court to two counts of driving under the influence in separate incidents.
He was one of seven defendants in pending DUI cases to enter a plea before Judge Steven R. Serfass.Controlled substancesDonald Charles Fritz Jr., 43, was arrested for the first offense on Nov. 12, 2014, by state police at Lehighton along Route 248 at Parryville after being observed driving erratically.The second arrest occurred on Dec. 17, 2014, along Mauch Chunk Road in Palmerton when troopers again pulled him over, this time for driving under suspension.In both incidents a blood test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Serfass deferred sentencing so Fritz could obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation and if recommended, a further comprehensive evaluation.Other pleasOther defendants entering pleas to DUI included:Judith Sabol, 36, of Lansford, was arrested on Jan. 9 along Patterson Street by Lansford police. Given a test, the result showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred.Joshua Todd Robert Barlip, 24, of Palmerton, was arrested on Feb. 8 along Bridge Street in Weissport by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so Barlip could get a D&A evaluation.Steven Elmer Abendschein, 48, of Albrightsville, was arrested on Nov. 20, 2014, along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed 0.10 BAC.Sentencing was deferred so he could obtain a comprehensive D&A evaluation.Justine June Osborn, 28, of Weatherly, was arrested on Sept. 26, 2014, following a vehicle stop along Mauch Chunk Street by Mahoning Township police.A test showed 0.21 BAC.Sentencing was deferred so she could obtain a comprehensive D&A evaluation.John Michael Mika Jr., 32, of Lehighton, was arrested on Nov. 23, 2014, along Bridge St., in Lehighton, by state police at Lehighton. A test showed 0.11 BAC.Serfass sentenced him to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $500, one year license suspension, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole, and render 25 hours of community service.He will begin the jail term on June 26 at noon and serve three days, then July 3 at noon and serve two days.Peter James Huff, 24, of Tresckow, was arrested on July 31, 2013, along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township by state police at Lehighton.A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so he could obtain a D&A evaluation.
