Carbon County officials took action on a number of personnel requests, as well as various department actions during Thursday's county commissioners' meeting.

Actions included:Personnel• Approved the employment separations of Desirae A. Berger of Nesquehoning, and Christopher M. Toro of Hazleton as corrections officers, effective Nov. 18.• Approved the retirement of Andrew S. Yurchak of Jim Thorpe, who is employed as a corrections officer, effective Dec. 14.• Approved the resignations of part-time corrections officers Ethan Cramer of Lehighton, effective Oct. 27; and Cara E. Highfield of Nesquehoning, effective Nov. 15.• Approved the resignation of Ryan R. Fritzinger of Nesquehoning, seasonal park ranger II, effective Nov. 15.• Approved the resignation of Rose M. Walck of Nesquehoning as part-time victim/witness coordinator, District Attorney's office, effective Dec. 18.• Hired Lawrence J. Bonner of Lehighton from part-time corrections officer to part-time corrections officer/Teamsters at the prison, effective Nov. 23.• Approved a leave of absence for Ashley Hummel of Nesquehoning, part-time cleaning person, from Jan. 1, 2016 to Feb. 15, 2016.Other actions• Approved the reappointment of Paul Smith of Berks County on the airport authority board. He will serve a five-year term.• Approved annual renewal of service agreements with Berkshire Systems Group Inc. of Reading, and Guyette Communications Industries Corporation of Plymouth, covering the sound systems in the three courtrooms. Berkshire will be paid $696 for courtroom 3 services; and Guyette will receive $295 each for courtrooms 1 and 2.• Approved a motion to terminate a lease agreement with Hooven Hall LLC for five parking spaces between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the easterly side of the Hooven building at 42 Susquehanna St., Jim Thorpe, effective Dec. 31.• Approved a service agreement with Reynolds Business Systems of Allentown, covering microfilm equipment in the archives department at a cost of $8,518, which represents a decrease of $867 due to the removal of one piece of equipment.• Commissioners' Chairman Wayne Nothstein reported that motorists driving tall vehicles are still striking the steel headache bar when entering the covered bridge in Lower Towamensing Township."Fortunately, nothing was big enough to do any damage, but the bar is being chipped," he said. "I don't know what else we can do."The county recently installed a steel height restriction bar after numerous wooden wants were struck, damaged and knocked down by over-height vehicles, which then caused thousands of dollars in damage to the covered bridge over the years.
