Lansford wants 911 tape from Midas' death

Lansford Borough Council wants access to the recorded report of officer David Midas' suicide from the Carbon County Communications Center.

On the night of Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, Midas, also a lieutenant with the Carbon County Sheriff's Department, was off-duty but got into a Lansford borough police cruiser, picked up a fellow police officer, then drove to Broadway in Jim Thorpe and fatally shot himself. The investigation of the incident was handled by the Pennsylvania State Police.Solicitor Michael Greek said that access to the tape may not be possible.Council would need a criminal investigation or a civil suit in order to have access to the tape from that night, he said.Recently, members have also requested the 27-page police investigation of the incident.Greek, at last month's meeting, said that the report might be an investigative file, and not available to council. The file has not yet been designated as public record.
