Northwestern grabs boys, girls soccer wins

Northwestern came up with victories in boys and girls soccer over Salisbury on Thursday.

BOYS SOCCERSalisbury-NorthwesternBrandon Ettl's second half goal was the difference in the game, as Northwesten topped Salibury 1-0 in Colonial League play.Kyle Snyder made seven saves in net for the Tigers to preserve the shutout.Saucon Valley-PalmertonThe Panthers took the early lead and eventually held the Bombers scoreless in a Colonial League boys' soccer game for a 3-0 win.Joe Schuyler, Sean Kowalski and Luke Masiado all scored goals, as Masiado and Schuyler both chipped in assists in the win.In a game that saw Saucon outshoot Palmerton 15-6, Rich Roselli stopped 12 in goal in the losing effort.With the loss, Palmerton drops to 3-6 on the season, while Saucon Valley improves to 6-1-1.GIRLS SOCCERNorthwestern-SalisburySara Segan scored all three goals as the Lady Tigers shut out the Falcons by a 3-0 score.Sabrina Mertz assisted on one of the goals.The Tigers outshot the Falcons 11-6. Northwestern goalie Laura Hill had six saves.Palmerton-Saucon ValleySaucon proved to be too much for Palmerton girls soccer, as they downed the Bombers 8-1 in Colonial League action.No other information was provided at press time.Columbia Montour-Jim ThorpeColumbia Montour Vo-Tech pulled out a 2-1 win over the Lady Olympians.Thorpe took a 1-0 lead that lasted through halftime, as Ilse Hassler scored off an assist from Gavrielle Mele.However, two scores from the guests proved to be too much in a game that saw both teams take 13 shots.Alyssa Smith stopped 10 shots on goal for the Olympians in the losing effort.Palisades-Northern LehighPalisades beat up on Northern Lehigh in Colonial League play, winning 9-0.Kelsey Scott and Callie Duliba each scored twice for the Pirates.Weatherly-Williams ValleyThe Vikings rolled to a 11-6 victory over the Wreckers behind four goals from Hannah Nestor.Alexis Boyarski had a hat trick for the Lady Wreckers.Kutztown-TamaquaTamaqua and Kutztown battled back and forth until Alex Garret scored on a penalty kick with 15 minutes left to pull out the win for the Cougars.Carly Sassaman had 14 saves in goal for the Raiders (7-3-1, 4-1-1).Tamaqua won the JV game 1-0 on a goal from Hanna Zoba.CROSS COUNTRYPM West-PM East-ES South-ES North-LehightonLehighton took three of its four cross country matches with the two East Stroudsburg schools, including both on the girls' side, Thursday afternoon in MVC action.The Lady Indians had the best showing as Jen Beers, Cassie Rehnert and Emily Oldt finished second, third and fourth respectively. Temmates Kelcey VanHorn and Jamey Mikovich each added three kills as well.Pleasant Valley-Pocono Mountain WestThe Lady Beas remained perfect in the MVC volleyball, as they defeated Pocono Mountain West 25-6, 25-12, 25-7 to improve to 4-0 in the league and 10-1 overall.Bridget Lozier had 12 kills for the locals, while Courtney Miller added eight kills, three aces and four blocks. Teammate Kiersten Griesback chipped in with 14 assists on the night with five aces and five digs. Mackenzie Dorney also had a nice game with seven kills and eight digs.
