The World Day of Prayer Service 2016 for the Lehighton-Weissport area will take place at 7 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, Third and Mahoning streets in Lehighton.

This worldwide ecumenical service is to celebrate a day of informed prayer and prayerful action. The theme for this service is “Receive Children, Receive Me” written by the Christian women of Cuba. The service begins at sunrise in the Pacific and follows the sun across the globe.Lehighton Interfaith Fellowship coordinates the service.Participating are: Kay Miller, Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church; Shirley Stamm, First Presbyterian Church, the host church; Mary Fay Levendusky, All Saint’s Episcopal Church; Jenny Keiper and Joan Mertz, Grace Lutheran Church; Jim Logue, organist, SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church; Melissa Kester and Shirley Radler, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church; Brittany, Fiona and Stevey Hudak, Valley View Baptist, Northampton; and Sherry Snyder, Zion United Church of Christ.There will be a time for fellowship after the service.
