Carbon County court - Parole/probation revocation
County judges conducted parole/probation revocation hearings recently on petitions filed by the adult probation office against defendants who violated the terms of their release.
Jennifer Stefanick, 23, of Summit Hill, had hearings held for violating conditions in two cases on petition of probation officer Clifford Eckhart. In one case the charge was possession of drug paraphernalia and the second case was retail theft. She violated conditions by failing to complete drug and alcohol treatment, failed to complete 50 hours of community service, was arrested by Summit Hill police on another drug charge and by Nesquehoning police for a drug count at the county prison.Judge Joseph J. Matika resentenced her in one case to serve six to 12 months in a state correctional institution with credit for 31 days already served and in the second case serve 126 days in prison with credit for 118 already served. The sentence was imposed on May 19.Ronald Ventura, 31, of Albrightsville had his parole revoked on a charge of possessing instruments of crime on petition of probation officer Joseph Bettine for violating conditions by not making a concerted effort to pay court costs totaling $1,816.67 and failing to complete 50 hours of community service.Matika sentenced him to serve three months' backtime effective Sept. 1. However, if he completes the community service and pays $607.14 on his costs, plus make his regular monthly payments, the order will be vacated.Tasha Osborn, 37, of Lansford, had her probation revoked on a charge of persistent disorderly conduct on petition of Eckhart for violating conditions by failing to report to the probation office as directed, absconded from her residence and failed to engage in drug and alcohol treatment.Judge Steven R. Serfass resentenced her to serve 30 days to six months in the county prison with credit for nine days already served.Rickey Tartaglia, 28, of Lehighton, had his parole and probation sentences in two cases involving charges of possession of drug paraphernalia in both cases, revoked on petition of probation officer Derek George for violating conditions by testing positive for several controlled substances which violated the zero-tolerance condition.President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II resentenced him to serve 6 to 12 months in the county prison with the effective date of Dec. 19, 2016.Jay Abelovsky, 29, of Lehighton, had his probation revoked on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia on petition of George for violating conditions by having drug charges filed against him by Allentown police, testing positive for a controlled substance and failing to submit to urine screens as directed.Serfass resentenced him to serve 6 to 12 months in the county prison with the effective date of April 24.Mark Nicholas Locke, 35, of Lehighton, had his parole revoked on a charge of criminal mischief on petition of George for violating conditions by failing to make a concerted effort to pay court costs, failing to complete 50 hours of community service and failing to make an effort to pay restitution.Matika resentenced him to serve 90 days backtime in the county prison effective March 5.ARD revokedThe following defendants were revoked from the Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program.Michael Atkinson, 26, of Nesquehoning, was revoked on a charge of access device fraud on petition of Eckhart for violating conditions by failing to report to the probation office as directed, absconded from his approved residence, charged with new criminal offenses, failing to make payments of court costs, failing to complete drug and alcohol treatment and failing to perform 50 hours of community service.Craig Robert Silliman, 23, of Lehighton, was revoked on a charge of driving under the influence of a controlled substance on petition of George for violating conditions by failing to report to the probation office as directed, testing positive for a controlled substance, admitted using a controlled substance while on supervision and failing to submit to urine screens as directed.Ariel Stevens, 20, of Lansford, was revoked on a charge of corruption of a minor on petition of Eckhart for violating conditions by repeatedly testing positive for a controlled substance and failing to engage in drug and alcohol treatment.Lauren Shellock, 42, of White Haven, was revoked on a DUI charge on petition of Bettine for violating conditions by being arrested on new criminal charges by White Haven police.All four had their cases was placed on the next pretrial list.
