West Penn man killed in crash Thursday night

A West Penn Township man was killed when his pickup crossed the center line of Route 443 and collided with a tractor-trailer Thursday night.

The Schuylkill County coroner's office identified the victim as Paul Moyer, 36.Township police said Moyer was driving westbound in a black Chevrolet truck when it collided with an eastbound New England Motor Freight tractor-trailer rig.The crash occurred near Short Road about 10:30 p.m.After impact the rig came to rest across the road with the tractor against a utility pole along the north berm. The pickup came to rest facing north in the westbound lane.Moyer was pronounced dead at the scene by a county deputy coroner. The truck driver, whose name was not released by police, was injured but refused medical treatment at the scene, police said.Assisting police were volunteers from the West Penn Township Fire Company, who had to extricate Moyer from his truck.Township fire police assisted with traffic control by detouring traffic around the scene.Sgt. Jason Lorah is the investigating officer.
