New fencing installed at Skyline Park
New fencing has been installed as part of a revitalization project at a recreational area in Lehighton.
Mayor Ryan Saunders on Monday gave borough council a brief update on the status of the Skyline Park project along North Third Street.
“All new fencing is up,” Saunders said. “I think it looks great.”
In July, council unanimously agreed to begin construction of a fence at the park.
Before that vote, Saunders said they were looking to get fencing put up at the park along North Third Street that would mirror the fencing at the Elwood James Blocker Memorial Field, at Sixth and Coal soccer fields.
From there, he said they would then look to repaint the old swing sets there and add new chains and updated swings.
In November 2025, council approved a resolution for authorization for the Lehighton Downtown Initiative to improve the park.
Saunders, who also serves as president of LDI, said at that time that one of Behavioral Health Associates in Lehighton reached out to the borough to see if there was any way they could get involved in helping to revitalize the community.
They connected with Councilwoman Becky Worthy, also a member of LDI. BHA favored the park because they take students to Skyline frequently on field trips.
Saunders said BHA came back to LDI with a $75,000 check to help start revitalizing Skyline Park.
He said at that time LDI was putting together a steering committee comprised of members of BHA, LDI, representatives from Parks & Recreation and the borough manager.
Plans call for new landscaping, new swing sets and a pavilion.
There have been other uses discussed for Skyline Park in recent years, with a dog park and a skate park among them.
