Meuser retains seat to represent Schuylkill

In perhaps the largest district area-wise among Pennsylvania’s congressional alignment, Republican Dan Meuser managed to regain his seat in the House, winning the 9th District race against Democratic challenger Rachel Wallace.

He won in every county — 12 of them — to defeat Wallace by an overall tally of 163,850 to 99,924.

The district includes all of Bradford, Columbia, Lebanon, Montour, Northumberland, Schuylkill, Sullivan and Wyoming counties and parts of Berks, Luzerne and Lycoming counties.

“I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming support of the people of Pennsylvania’s Ninth District and the trust they have placed in me to continue representing them in Washington,” Meuser posted on Facebook. “Once again, voters in the 9th Congressional District have rejected the failed ideology of authoritarian socialism and reaffirmed the values Americans have spent 250 years defending: freedom, opportunity, and the promise of the American dream.”

He added, “I will continue to fight for you with courage and conviction, and work every day to continue to earn the trust you have placed in me. It is a privilege to serve you.”

In the Times News coverage area of Schuylkill County, the representative was a decisive 27,876 to 16,328 winner over Wallace, a Pottsville native who worked for former Congressman Tim Holden and went on to serve in the U.S. State Department, the U.S. Senate, and the White House, where she was Chief of Staff for the Office of Management and Budget.

She said Tuesday night she was proud of the accomplishment “because this has been so much bigger than a campaign.”

Wallace said, “It’s been a moment for us to acknowledge the real pain that our part of Pennsylvania is in – and no matter who is in charge in Washington, that pain needs to be seen, and things need to change. We can’t afford for them not to... And we don’t have to accept that Washington no longer works for us.”

The other county breakdowns in which Meuser won included: Berks: 13,350 to 8,491; Bradford: 14,135 to 6,62;’ Columbia: 13,220 to 9,169; Lebanon: 29,763 to 21,222; Luzerne: 11,090 to 5,760; Lycoming: 14,811 to 9,609; Montour: 3,303 to 2,230; Northumberland: 17,662 to 10,409; Sullivan: 1,774 to 873; Susquehanna: 10,082 to 5,080; and Wyoming: 6,784 to 4,125.
