Hunger walk raises $8,564 for Tamaqua pantries

More than 100 walkers turned out Sunday for the 15th annual Tamaqua Community Hunger Walk, helping bring the 2026 Tamaqua Area Hunger Campaign to a close.

Participants gathered at the Tamaqua Community Arts Center before making the walk to the Griffiths Funeral Home and back, demonstrating the community’s commitment to helping neighbors facing food insecurity.

The walk raised $8,564 toward the campaign’s overall goal of $25,000. Funds raised throughout the October campaign benefit four local church-affiliated food pantries and one baby food ministry serving families throughout the Tamaqua area.

The participating ministries include: the American Primitive Methodist Church food pantry; Trinity United Church of Christ food pantry; People’s Pantry at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church; G-Lady Community Food Pantry; and the St. John XXIII baby food ministry.

The annual campaign brings together churches, businesses, community organizations and individuals in a neighbor-helping-neighbor effort to address hunger. Through food collections, fundraising events, restaurant partnerships, concerts and individual contributions, the campaign provides important support to local ministries that help hundreds of families each month.

“Sunday’s turnout was a fitting conclusion to another month of community generosity, reminding everyone that fighting hunger is a year-round commitment and that every contribution makes a difference,” said campaign planning team member and walk organizer Paul Dodson.
