Drive in Lansford for kids coats starts Monday

David’s Annual Coat Drive kicks off Monday in Lansford.

The drive, in its third year, seeks to provide warm coats and accessories at no cost to children in need in the borough, said Gabrielle Crothers, who started the drive in memory of her son, David.

The drive recalls David’s act of kindness and compassion when he gave his coat to child, who was being bullied and had no coat, she said.

Crothers found out about the charitable act when she noticed her son leaving to the bus stop with no coat on a crisp 28-degree morning, she said.

“I asked him where his coat was,” Crothers said. “He calmly said, “I gave it to a boy at the bus stop because he has no coat.’ I couldn’t even be mad at him.”

David died in 2014, but his love and kindness now lives on each year through the coat drive, she said.

“Let’s all get together and make sure every kid in Lansford has a nice, warm coat this year,” Crothers said. “We are in need of donations, especially this year when families are struggling to pay the bills, to heat their homes and buy groceries.”

The drive is seeking donations of used and new jackets for boys and girls in sizes small, medium and large, as well as kids juniors small, medium and large.

Both boys and girls hats and gloves are also requested, she said.

Crothers will be taking donations starting Monday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the days following leading up to the giveaway in mid-November.

Coats will be handed out at the Lansford Midrise bus stop at 430 E. Bertsch St. on Nov. 17, she said.

Anyone wanting to make a donation can do so by calling Crothers at 717-250-3244 or emailing her at crothersgabrielle@gmail.com.

“Any donation is a blessing,” she said.
