Aglow for Christmas

Papa Al’s to hold third Christmas Lighting Ceremony

It’s all about more lights, more Christmas at a Palmerton eatery.

The magic at Papa Al’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria in Palmerton will begin to take hold at its third annual Christmas Lighting Ceremony at 6 p.m. on Nov. 1.

The theme of this year’s event is A Christmas Wish, and Oak Hollow Designs has transformed the business with a whole new look.

There will be face-painting, a special visit from Santa, live entertainment from Autumn Falls Entertainment, and local wine from Sleepy Cat Urban Winery. On that evening only, there will be no outside beverages to support the local winery.

Borough Mayor Bo Rodrigues, along with state Rep. Doyle Heffley will serve as guest speakers.

“It will be bigger and better,” said waitress Jenna Thornton, who recently won the Times News Readers Choice Award for Best Restaurant Server. “We’re anticipating a lot more people this year.”

Thornton explained that guests attend the Christmas Lighting Ceremony for the atmosphere alone.

“It’s decorated as a Winter Wonderland,” she said. “By the time people walk in the door, we see all of them taking pictures which they post. It makes us feel good; it attracts more social media.”

Thornton added, “We see a lot of new faces who want to come in and see the new decor. (They come) to see what we have to offer this year.”

Thornton noted that the business will be open on Mondays throughout November and December.

“A lot of businesses are closed on Mondays,” she said. “Us being open can definitely increase business.”

Papa Al’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria features more room for seating, and also has a brand-new Point-of-Sale system.
