Cross country runner struck by branch dies a month later

A 15-year-old member of the Parkland High School cross country team died Sunday from injuries suffered when he was struck by a falling tree branch.

Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio said he was pronounced dead at 11:39 a.m. at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest Campus, Salisbury Township. The death, determined to be accidental, was caused by complications of multiple blunt force injuries, Buglio said.

The coroner said the boy was with members of the cross country team when he was struck by the falling branch at about 9:10 a.m. Sept. 26 in the area of the 1300 block of Oxford Drive, Allentown, near the Little Lehigh Parkway.

Buglio, who declined to name the teen, expressed his condolences to the family and the Parkland community “during this unimaginable time.”
