State police at Belfast are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that occurred on Monday at about 9 p.m. on Interstate 78 in Lower Saucon Township.

Police said they were dispatched to the scene for a four-vehicle motor vehicle crash and determined a tractor trailer that was traveling eastbound crossed over the center median and struck a tractor trailer head-on in the westbound lanes of travel.

They said a third tractor trailer traveling westbound collided with the tractor trailer which crossed over the center median, causing the tractor trailer that crossed over the center median to overturn and containers of cranberry juice to spill onto the roadway. Police said during this crash sequence, a transit van was also struck.

Police said I-78 westbound was closed from mile marker 67 to the crash site and all traffic was detoured onto Exit 67 westbound before the highway was opened this morning at 5:15.

Police said the operator of the overturned tractor trailer suffered injuries and was transported to a hospital.
