Penn Forest trunk-or-treat brings community together
Nearly 30 vehicles participated in Penn Forest Township’s trunk-or-treat Sunday at the township park.
Princesses, Ursula, Olaf, dinosaurs and a lumberjack joined in the fun.
“I love serving the community because I enjoy seeing happy people,” Park Committee Chair Holly Rivera said. “We don’t have a downtown. We have 75 square miles of open space so I love getting people together.”
Rivera thanked the township supervisors for allowing the park committee to spend money to host the event.
Penn Forest volunteer fire companies No. 1 and No. 2 distributed candy. Firefighters and fire police also judged the best-decorated trunk contest.
A Dom N Ali’s gift card was awarded for first place. Second- and third-place winners received gift cards to Reilly’s Pub and Reilly’s Produce.
Julie Puccini-Vartulli of Jim Thorpe, dressed as Ursula from Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” won first place.
“I love Halloween. It’s my favorite holiday. I’m very excited and this costume is from a party last night,” Puccini-Vartulli said.
Penn Forest Fire Company No. 1 offered hot chocolate, cookies and apple cider.
Children could paint one of 125 pumpkins available at the event.
Five-year-old Mae Hydro painted her pumpkin with rainbows.
“Rainbows all over because I love rainbows,” she said.
The Morgan family of Jim Thorpe attended the trunk-or-treat for the first time. Nadine Morgan learned about the event through her daughter’s pre-K class.
John Morgan said it was a “safe and fun event for the family.”
Eight-year-old Lexi Bacon dressed as a lumberjack because “I was thinking of lumberjacks.”
She added, “Halloween is scary. Sometimes lumberjacks chop down trees and people may not know, which is scary.”
Her costume included an inflatable ax and a piece of wood.
Kassandra Mantz of Summit Hill said, “It’s nice to get the kids out during the day, all in one spot.”
