Letter to the editor: Legislative lip service

I am sick and tired of our local legislators sticking their chests out telling us that they are introducing, coauthoring, or sponsoring bills that will give local municipalities the ability to say what can be built in their areas.

All they are doing is passing the buck; kicking the can down the road. Just like every other major issue such as property taxes, energy costs, etc. They spend time on determining what the official insect of the state should be, or renaming the Great Lakes. Our one local politician has been a Congressman since 2012. Every year he is up for reelection, we get lip service on how is working on reducing, or eliminating property taxes.

That’s 14 years of lip service, and 14 years my taxes have gone up. Now they wash their hands of doing anything to stop the destruction of our communities with these concrete monoliths.

The local supervisors, zoning boards, ordinance boards, etc. are all good people. Many are well educated.

But can any one of them write an ordinance that will stand up to these high priced lawyers, with their “Overlays” and their consistent challenges saying they are illegal? Also, where will these local municipalities get the resources to take it through all the courts that, I am sure, these big corporations will take them?

We don’t have the high priced lawyers that the corporations have. We do have highly compensated legislators and a whole lot excuses, and lip service.
