Letter to the editor: Tremont Township and undocumented immigrants

Dear Editor,

I have a comment regarding reporter Chris Parker’s page one article in Tuesday’s paper. The article is titled “DHS to sell Tremont Twp. Warehouse.”

Most everyone, including me, is sympathetic to small communities facing the prospect of massive government detention centers springing up in their towns. For a variety of important and legitimate reasons, thinking people don’t want detention centers as their neighbors any more than they want data centers or mega warehouses. So, news that the government is pulling its plans for the Tremont warehouse is very good news. On the other hand, Chris Parker’s article contains some content that, to me, is not good news; his use of the term “undocumented immigrants.”

The term “undocumented immigrant” is a false flag. It’s use came into vogue decades ago by those wishing to foster less suspicion and more tolerance of illegal aliens. They found that, by substituting the word “undocumented” for the word “illegal”, some Americans were more empathetic to these people.

To be clear, the government is not building detention centers nationwide to hold “undocumented immigrants”, as Chris Parker writes. The detention centers are intended to temporarily hold only illegal aliens – or, if you prefer, illegal immigrants – who have had their day-in-court and are about to be legally deported back to their home countries. The matter of any documentation, legal or otherwise, has already been addressed and litigated by the time an illegal alien enters a detention center.

I can assure everyone, based on my personal first-hand experiences as a San Diego cop, that most of Chris Parker’s “undocumented immigrants” do indeed have documents. It’s just that those documents almost always happen to be stolen, forged, or otherwise bogus identification papers. And, the mere possession of those fake documents is prima facie evidence of the intent to deceive and cheat.

The Associated Press, the New York Times, the ACLU, and a host of other left-leaning organizations, including many NGO’s using taxpayer dollars, regularly use the term “undocumented immigrant”. I find it troubling that Chris Parker and the Times News have bought into the propaganda ploy.
