Joseph Balik, 60, of Slatington, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol following a one-car crash, state police at the Bethlehem barracks said.
The crash occurred, police said, at 8:39 p.m. Oct. 2 at the intersection of Glencrest and Park Valley roads, North Whitehall Township.
Police said they were dispatched to the intersection after receiving calls of a car off the roadway and down an embankment. They said a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze was northbound on Park Valley Road at a high rate of speed when it left the road, hit a tree and was propelled down an embankment, landing in thick brush.
Police said Balik was identified as the operator of the vehicle. They said he climbed out of the vehicle and walked to his home, which was about a mile from the crash site. Police said he was contacted and was visibly intoxicated and had a cut on his arm but declined medical attention.
Police said Balik admitted to consuming alcohol before operating the vehicle and agreed to take standardized field sobriety tests, which indicated signs of impairment.
He was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Muhlenberg Campus, Bethlehem, for a blood draw.
The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Balik was also cited for failure to drive at a safe speed, police said.
