State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported on Tuesday they are investigating a report that two unidentified students may have brought weapons to the Pleasant Valley High School, Brodheadsville, in January.
Police said they were made aware of the incident at 7:19 a.m. Jan. 23 through the state’s Safe2Say network.
Police said the matter remains under investigation by the barracks’ criminal investigation unit. They said there was no direct threat of violence at the time.
Police said there is currently an increased security presence within the school that includes metal detectors. They said troopers from Troop N have been present at the school to ensure safety for both students and staff.
In its release this week, police said: “The Pennsylvania State Police would like parents/guardians and neighboring community members to know that these incidents are taken extremely seriously, and although there is a large police presence, the school is safe and secure. The investigation is ongoing, and information will be released as to not jeopardize the integrity of the investigation.”
