Bielen reelected as Marian Catholic board chairman
Dave Bielen of Tamaqua will once again serve as chairman of the board of directors for Marian Catholic High School following an election at the recent fall board meeting.
His leadership comes at an important time as Marian continues to work on a new strategic vision focused on preserving and reimaging Catholic education in Schuylkill, Carbon and Luzerne counties for generations.
“I am humbled to share that I have been elected as board chair for the 2026-27 school year at Marian Catholic High School,” Bielen said. “It is truly an honor to work alongside our dedicated board and represent them in this capacity. Our mission remains focused on ensuring that student success is at the forefront of all our decision-making processes.”
The Rev. Robert Finlan, school principal, expressed his gratitude for Bielen’s dedication over the past four decades at Marian.
“Dave’s efforts have significantly contributed to the financial health of Marian, putting us in a strong position for the future. Together, we share a vision for the school and are committed to providing exceptional opportunities for our students,” Finlan said.
“The increasing quality of the Marian board of directors is truly impressive,” Bielen said. “With members from diverse disciplines such as higher education, law, finance, marketing, fundraising and facilities, our board is well equipped to support Marian Catholic High School’s long-term sustainability and viability. Father Finlan’s leadership, along with his administrative team, lays a solid foundation for our school’s future.”
Larry Furey, of Naples, Florida, board vice chairman, emphasized his belief in the value of Catholic education and the importance of a faith-filled learning environment.
“I am privileged to serve alongside such an extraordinary board and look forward to contributing to the continued success of Marian Catholic High School,” Furey said.
In addition to Bielen and Furey, other officers for the 2026-27 school year are Sister Rose Mulligan, of Immaculata, as secretary, and Bill Stulginsky, of Newton Square, as treasurer.
Committee chairs are Sue Yacapsin McGorry, Jerome Dvorak, John Lavelle, Bill Stulginsky, Bruce Svetz, Dan LaBert and Patrick Boyle.
