Slatington Borough Council conducted the following business recently:

• Council approved several community requests, including a Save-A-Life event scheduled for Sept. 24 at the Slatington Trailhead and the Northern Lehigh School District Homecoming Parade on Oct. 9 from 5:15- 6:30 p.m.

• Council also authorized borough officials to inform Lehigh County they are interested in hosting an election drop box within the borough.

• A change order totaling $13,842.07 for Fifth Street sidewalk and roadway work was approved for Lehigh Engineering.

• Borough officials said work on the 2027 budget is underway.

• Council appointed Debbie Rinker as tax collector for the remainder of the term previously held by her late husband, Jon Rinker.

• Sewer authority bills approved Sept. 14 included $500 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Clean Water Fund; $250 to Brown & Brown Insurance Services for a bond rewrite involving Karen Leach; and $6,000 to CR&Y for an audit of financial statements for the period ending Jan. 31, 2026. The total approved was $6,750.

• During public comment, resident Frank Hoffman told council there is excessive vegetation at Factory and Main streets that needs to be addressed. “There is a lot of overgrowth that needs cutting at Factory and Main Streets,” Hoffman said.

• Resident Gene Stahlnaker raised concerns about visibility and parking restrictions at Race and Cherry streets.

“The hedges at Race and Cherry streets need to be trimmed. It’s hard to see to pull out when driving,” Stahlnaker said.

He also requested updated pavement markings.

“Also, Race Street to Cherry Street needs to be repainted to the curb. There are cars parked all the way to the end. It’s too hard to pull out,” he said.

Schoch asked council to waive the permit fee associated with combining the snack stand and office area at the Northern Lehigh Swimming Pool.

Borough Manager Roy Hambrecht, Councilman William Schippers, Police Chief William Borst and Councilman Kevin Steckel were absent.
