A Parryville woman is facing charges following an incident outside the Carbon County Courthouse after a hearing related to a Protection from Abuse order.

According to court documents, Ayana Haluska, 25, appeared before Judge Roger N. Nanovic on Sept. 18 for an indirect criminal contempt hearing involving a Protection from Abuse order.

As the hearing concluded, Nanovic said he would permit contact between Haluska and the defendant regarding their children.

Haluska objected to the decision and told the judge that he might as well put her in jail because she did not intend to follow the directive, according to the affidavit.

Carbon County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Mittura, who was assigned to the courtroom, remained nearby as tensions between the parties appeared to be escalating.

After the hearing, the defendant left the courtroom and Haluska remained behind, speaking with a victim advocate.

Haluska and another man then left the courthouse and walked to a vehicle parked near Molly Maguires Pub in Hazard Square.

While attempting to locate the defendant to remind him the Protection from Abuse order remained in effect, Mittura witnessed an argument involving Haluska, the defendant and the other man.

During the confrontation, the defendant told Mittura that Haluska was attempting to take a firearm from the other man.

Deputies recovered the firearm and secured the scene while additional officers responded.

All parties were taken to the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, where they were interviewed. Two independent witnesses also provided written statements.

As a result of the incident, authorities charged Haluska with two counts of recklessly endangering another person and one count of disorderly conduct.

She was jailed in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 bail and freed later that day after posting bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday before District Judge Joseph D. Homanko Sr. in Weatherly.
