September 14, 1956 — Frank Ike has a big game on the ground and scores Tamaqua’s only touchdown and the host Blue Raiders hold off Mount Carmel for a 7-6 victory. Ike carries 18 times for 163 yards and breaks free for a 46-yard scoring run in the opening quarter. Hal Barron adds the PAT, which proves to be crucial to the final outcome. The visitors get on the board in the second quarter but their run attempt on the conversion is stopped to allow Tamaqua to maintain the lead. Mount Carmel threatens late in the game, driving to the 3-yard line but Bill Eisley comes up with a huge tackle for Tamaqua to preserve the win.
