Weissport Borough Council passed a motion to hire, on a temporary basis, Dana Mantz, to do the treasurer work until a permanent Secretary/Treasurer can be hired. She will work a maximum of 15 hours per week at $20 per hour.

Borough Council Member Jennifer Ketchledge is handling some of the secretarial work at no charge to the borough.

The office was vacated with the resignation of Cheryl Miller as of July 21.

Council voted to pay a $100 fee in order for Weissport Interim Chief of Police Anthony Vaillant to apply for an Local Share Account grant.

The purpose of the LSA grant is to help with any kind of equipment upgrade Chief Vaillant would need in his work. In this case, the grant is needed to upgrade the radio that he would carry.

“Radios must be upgraded by December 31st, because the county is going digital,” Councilman Bill Hartzell explained

The car radio was already upgraded; the radio that Chief Vaillant would carry is the one that needs to be replaced. The approximate cost of the new radio is near $8,000. The total amount of the LSA Grant was not determined yet.

Road project

The White Street road project in Weissport is complete.

“I send out applause to all the citizens for keeping the street free of cars,” Councilman Bill Hartzell stated. “We had no issues with people having to move cars during the whole construction process.”

Hartzell noted that the contractors, in addition to the 300 and 400 blocks, also redid the intersection of White Street and Mill Street.

In the 500 block, they did work on a muddy grass area between the fence and the road. They dug out the mud, put in millings, and installed a French drain to alleviate ponding of water.

One issue that did come up was that water from rain formed a lot of puddles on one side of White Street.

Other business

• Council voted to approve the estimated cost of $900 to have the pickup truck bed installed.

• Public Works Director Bill Hartzell recommended that the zero-turn lawn mower be given an overhaul over the winter, as it needed two repairs within the past few weeks.

Hartzell also advised council they now had enough millings to finally work on Railway Street to fix potholes, work to be done in October.

• Engineer Mike Muffley asked Councilman Bill Hartzell to ask the Weissport Brough Council to approve a motion to authorize Hanover Township to advertise Weissport’s Garbage Contract on PennBid. Muffley works for Hanover Engineering, located in Hanover Township. Council approved the motion.
