State police from the Belfast barracks responded to a barricaded gunman in Upper Mount Bethel Township on Tuesday at approximately 10 a.m.

The incident happened in the Evergreen Village development in the 200 block of Molly Pitcher Lane, and involved a 58-year-old man in a mental health crisis. Police said the man indicated he was in possession of a firearm and also had two active criminal warrants for his arrest.

Upon arrival, troopers staged outside the residence and attempted to hail the man out of the residence with negative results. Members of the PSP Special Emergency Response Team arrived on scene and were able to successfully take the man into custody without incident.

The man was transported form the scene by Suburban Ambulance to a local hospital. The Upper Mount Bethel Township Fire Department assisted at the scene. The scene was cleared at 4:30 p.m.
