About 400 Summit Hill residents turned out for the dedication of the Diligence Fire Company No. 1’s new 85-foot aerial ladder truck.
Participants in the program were Fire Chief George Davis, James Derby, president of the fire company, the Rev. Carl Gray, second assistant fire chief, John Stoudt, assistant engineer of the company who provided viewers a demonstration of the truck, and Monsignor J. Francis Haley, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, who asked the invocation and pronounced the benediction. Frank E. Wehr, superintendent of the Coaldale State General Hospital, was master of ceremonies.
The truck was purchased at a cost of $65,950 and partially aided with the use of federal revenue sharing funds.
