Edward Rarick, business manager and board secretary, submitted his resignation Wednesday to become business manager at the Career Institute of Technology in Easton.

His last day at the Weatherly School District will be Oct. 13.

At the Weatherly School Board caucus meeting Wednesday night, Rarick offered his thanks to the Weatherly School District, the school board and the Weatherly community.

“It is with deep regret that I tendered my resignation, and it appears on the September agenda,” Rarick read from a prepared statement.

He shared a story of connecting with the students at the school.

“Four months after I started, I entered the cafeteria during one of elementary lunches,” Rarick said.

“I noticed a young boy eating lunch alone at a table, so I approached him and asked if I could sit and eat with him. I asked how his day was going. I asked if he was enjoying his lunch.”

Rarick said every time he entered the cafeteria from that day on, the young boy would seek him out to say hello or wave to him in the hall.

“For me, coming to Weatherly was never about a spreadsheet, a budget, taxes or everything in between that nobody sees in the business office. It was about connection,” Rarick said.

“For to those I worked with, the students in the school, the community itself, walking into the cafeteria and getting mobbed by students who wanted to give you a high five, stopping in the hallway to ask a crying middle schooler if they needed assistance, or assisting a high schooler when he dropped his belongings in the hallway. It was all about building a connection to a place I was fortunate enough to call my home for the past two years.”

He said people he interacted with became his family. “For that I’m eternally grateful. I hope the impression I made upon those I connected with is as strong as the one they made on me,” Rarick said.

He thanked the board for its support.

“I would like to thank my staff for their willingness to laugh with me, laugh at me, and get the job done. I would like to thank those I connected with throughout the district for welcoming me, and allowing me to be part of their lives,” Rarick said. “I wish the community, our students, our faculty, and staff all the best as they continue the pursuit of excellence in our children’s education.”

Rarick’s resignation will be on the school board’s Sept. 9 meeting agenda to be officially accepted.
