Complete with a new look, a Lehighton church’s thrift store was back to greeting customers on Wednesday.

Closed for three weeks to complete renovations to the space, Trinity Thrift Store at 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, held its grand reopening to much fanfare.

As part of the cash-only event, there were giveaways every half- hour and refreshments were available for purchase, such as hot dogs, chips and drinks.

Proceeds from the food sales went to Trinity Youth Group, according to Holly Klotz, comanager of the thrift store.

“It looks like we’re going to have a record-breaking day,” Klotz said with regard to the impressive turnout of guests. “We’ve been restocking throughout the day.”

Tracey Rickert of Lansford was among the many to visit the thrift store and said she wanted to make it a point to be there for the grand reopening.

“I really wanted to be able to come after work,” Rickert said. “They always have great items like shoes, clothing, housewares, different sizes and styles.

Rickert said she always enjoys seeing the same people each time she stops by.

“The volunteers dedicate a lot of time; they care about the store, the people,” she said. “They help out the community.”

Klotz said they’ll be doing the giveaways every half hour today and Saturday, as there will be new items put out. On Saturday, she said Sweet Molly’s will be there from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to sell sweet drinks such as dirty lemonades, dirty sodas, dirty Alani energy drinks and cold brew.

Trinity’s thrift store shut down earlier this month to complete renovations to the space. During that time, the store was not accepting donations of clothing or household items.

Klotz said everything has since been renovated, as all the walls were repainted, and all the carpeting was ripped out and replaced. She noted it had been 20 years since it was repainted.

“We’ve had very positive feedback,” she said. “It seems everyone is really happy with the end results.”

Klotz said the thrift shop has about 15 volunteers on a regular basis.

She said all the donations come into the room and they sort through the clothing. If they’re not in good condition, they bag them up and the Salvation Army picks them up. If they’re in good condition, then they go to A&E Clothing in New Jersey.

Donations will resume being accepted on Sept. 2.

Trinity Thrift Store is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday (9-5 November through March), 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Drop offs are accepted during store hours only. Items are to be brought to door No. 2 and carried inside. They are not to be dropped off outside if the store is not open.

There is a limit of five bags or boxes. TVs, computers, furniture, car seats and medical equipment are not accepted.

The thrift store’s mission is to support the food pantry and other church ministries.

All of its workers are volunteers and do their best to offer new and used goods in good shape for a fair price.

They have monthly price reductions and pop up sales throughout the year.

Their Christmas sale starts the day after Thanksgiving.
