The Monroe County commissioners are upgrading some iPads for the Elections Office.

Earlier this month the commissioners approved spending $61,650 for new iPads from Knowink. The purchase is going to be paid for through the Election Integrity Grant.

Commissioner John Christy, chairman of the commissioners, explained that the county purchases new iPads to upgrade those that are old technology. Not all of the iPads are updated, just those that need to be, he explained.

“What we do is instead of replacing them all at once, we stagger it as we go along, so that’s just the first. Next year, we’ll probably replace another 61,” Christy said. There are 58 polling places with multiple iPads at each location.

The commissioners also approved submitting the BJA Fiscal Year 2026 Byrne Discretionary Community Project grant for $1,020,379. This grant would be used to formalize an Opioid Crimes Section in the District Attorney’s office and support the existing Drug Task Force.

“Please note that is only a one-year grant,” Christy said.

The commissioners also submitted a $3,000,000 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Regional Mobile Crisis Team Expansion for Carbon and Monroe Counties Grant, for continued operation and expansion of the existing Mobile Crisis Team, application period of Sept. 30, 2026 to Sept. 30, 2030, and a Community Development Block Grant in the amount of $663,596.
