Water releases scheduled for Walter dam

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District has updated the 2026 Francis E. Walter Dam recreation plan.

The Army Corps updated the plan, which states whitewater and fisheries releases will be scheduled if enough water storage is accumulated in the reservoir. Currently, there is enough water storage to schedule the following:

• A whitewater event on Aug. 29 (650 cubic feet per second)

• Add a whitewater event for Aug. 30 (650 cubic feet per second).

• Fishing release on Sept. 12-13 (250 cubic feet per second plus inflow 350 cubic feet per second max).

• A whitewater event on Sept. 5 (650 cubic feet per second).

• A whitewater event on Sept. 6 (650 cubic feet per second).

• Increase fisheries augmentation releases to 100 cubic feet per second for the period of Aug. 10 - Sept. 6.

• Fishing release on Sept. 19-20 (250 cubic feet per second plus inflow 350 cubic feet per second max).

Increment 8 - Increase whitewater total release to 1,700 cubic feet per second on Aug. 29 and 1,000 cubic feet per second on Aug. 30.

• Add fisheries augmentation release of 50 cubic feet per second for the period Sept. 7-13.

• Add fishing release on Sept. 26-27 (250 cubic feet per second plus inflow 350 cubic feet per second max).

Recreational releases are subject to change, based on the potential need for flood control operations.
