AUGUST 17, 1984

The last of the Panther Valley Deep Coal Miners held their annual observance in Lansford aimed at perpetuating the memory of the anthracite miners of the valley.

Members lived up to their promise to never forget each other and to those who gave their lives to mining after the Lanscoal No. 9 Mine closed. It was the last operating mine in the area until June 22, 1972.

Club founder Mike Sabron lead the program, with three people recognized for their outstanding contributions to the club and the mining industry. They included Dr. Robert Valent, George Harvan and Jack Yalch, who received gifts presented them by Walter Stanek of Hometown.

Also serving as guest speaker was Archibald MacDonald, former head of the Panther Valley Division of Bethlehem Mines.
