Almost 300 Coaldale households face having their water service discontinued if they don’t soon pay their sewer transmission bills.

At Tuesday’s monthly meeting, borough Secretary Kim Gavornik noted that payments are due by Aug. 20.

“Right now, we have 299 bills that are unpaid,” she said.

At the July meeting, Gavornik noted that 334 had not paid.

“We are getting there but we only have a little over a week to go before we put out notices,” she said.

Gavornik said that those in arrears will receive a late notice and penalty fee. And if they still don’t pay, their residences will be posted with a note notifying them of an impending water shut off.

If water service is cut, residents must pay a fee to have it turned off and reconnected.

“It’s just a reminder to please get in here and pay that bill,” Gavornik said.

In keeping with the topic of bills, Mayor Daniel Weiksner said folks have deposited water and sewer payments in the borough office’s drop box.

“They don’t come to the borough office,” Weiksner reminded residents.

Water bills are to be paid at the Lansford-Coaldale Joint Water Authority office in Lansford, and sewer bills are collected by the Coaldale-Lansford-Summit Hill Sewer Authority in Summit Hill, he said.

Weiksner said he took the payments to the correct offices.

“But we can’t continue to do that,” he said.

Those who drop off incorrect payments to the borough office will have them returned. In that case, Weiksner said, they might risk having late fees tacked onto their bills.

He said that only bills for sanitation, taxes and sewer transmission are accepted at the borough office.
