Crashes investigated
State police at Lehighton reported on three crashes investigated by troopers.
• On Sunday at 11:24 p.m. a one-vehicle crash occurred along Lower Smith Gap Road in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County. William D. Shook, 20, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2005 Hyundai Tucson eastbound and negotiating a left-hand curve. While negotiating the curve, the vehicle went onto the south shoulder and down an embankment before impacting with a tree which caused it to overturn. The Tucson came to rest on its roof about 300 feet from the road. Shook was not injured but the Tucson sustained major front-end damage and had to be towed.• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 4:58 p.m. Aug. 9 along Little Gap Road in Lower Towamensing Township. Troopers said Victoria B. Snyder, 63, of Germansville, was driving a 2013 Ford Mustang westbound and abruptly traveled across the double yellow line and into the eastbound lane. The Ford then went onto the berm and struck a utility pole, coming to rest on an embankment. Snyder sustained minor injuries and was taken to the Palmerton hospital by Palmerton ambulance. The Ford sustained heavy front-end damage and had to be towed. Troopers cited Snyder for the crash.• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 6:26 p.m. Aug. 8 at the intersection of Burger Hollow and Haney roads, in Polk Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Nickolas M. Spearko, 19, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2014 Ford Fusion northbound on Haney Road and failed to stop for a posted stop sign and entered the intersection. Bryan G. Harvey, 48, of Blakeslee, was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Corvette westbound on Berger Hollow Road and entering the intersection. Both drivers attempted to avoid a collision but could not. The Ford struck the Chevrolet. After impact the Ford continued northwest and struck a unoccupied building.Harvey sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene by West End ambulance personnel. Spearko, who was not injured, was cited for a stop sign violation.
