Lansford Borough Council is looking for a new treasurer.

Council last week changed Maria Ahner’s status from full time to part time with no benefits including health care following her resignation the previous week.

Ahner, who has been with the borough since early 2024, had agreed to stay on in a part-time capacity as treasurer until a replacement could be found.

Council acted on Ahner’s status and advertising for a new treasurer at a special meeting last week.

Council President Joe Genits said that Ahner will be doing some work remotely, and she will continue to have access to the borough building while part time.

Genits planned to reach out to Kafferlin Associates, which the borough selected for the state’s Strategic Management Planning Program evaluating the borough’s operations, to see if they could assist with a job posting or qualifications.

He also suggested reaching out to Nicole Beckett, who works for the nonprofit Robert B. and Helen S. Meyner Center at Lafayette College, who did an initial assessment of the borough earlier this year. The nonprofit helps local governments be more effective.

Genits believed she could provide insight into hiring for the position or might know someone who would be interested in working for the borough as treasurer.

Council plans to run an abbreviated advertisement in the newspaper, referring applicants to the borough for a more detailed job description and qualifications, and also advertising the job on the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs’ website.

The job posting will also be on the borough’s website and social media page.
