Lansford Borough Council approved a work agreement with its code enforcement officer among other personnel items tackled at a special meeting last week.

Council has been working toward an agreement with Shane Monk for more than a year. He became a full-time employee in February 2025, after working part time in that capacity.

Council did not discuss details of the agreement, except to fill in a black space regarding notice of discharge to 14 days.

Councilman Joe Butrie was the lone no vote on the agreement. Monk’s last public raise was to $27.50 an hour for 2026.

Council also approved a union agreement with the Teamsters for the borough’s lone school crossing guard. Butrie, who wanted to table the agreement in order to read it again, voted no.

Police

Council agreed on hiring attorney Michael Miller of Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott LLC to represent the borough during contract negotiations with the police department.

The borough police contract expires at the end of this year.

Council also accepted the resignation of a part-time officer, Randy Schlatter, who asked that his resignation letter be read.

In the letter, Schlatter praised Officer in Charge Sgt. Shawn Nunemacher and Officer Josh Tom but criticized the divisive political environment he witnessed with “rumors, personal agendas and toxic behavior” and destructive social media influence and online personalities that harmed recruitment, retention and public trust in officers.

Council also went off the agenda to advertise for contractors for improvements at the Ashton Park concession stand under an $8,000 grant from the Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau.

The ads will appear in the newspaper, as well as the borough website and social media page.
